Email in WordPress is a tricky matter. First of all, you need to check if your emails are well being sent from your WordPress site or not. To do so, please install Email Tracker plugin. This plugin will track all emails that are send from your website. Once you try an operation that should send an email, please go to the archives and check if the email is listed.
What to do if no email is listed ?
If you cannot find any email, it means emails are not send by your server and the mailing services might be incorrectly set. In that case, it’s very strange that your server is not sending emails… We do not make any changes to BuddyPress core emails in our theme or plugins. So, this issue has to come from elsewhere. This issue may come from:
- Hosting misconfiguration (most probable)
- Mail sending plugins such as Mailchimp for WordPress
- Custom development that can interfere with WordPress mail sending features
- A mail client unable to interpret misspelled HTML
- Bug due to the new BuddyPress update (very improbable)

What to do if the email is listed ?
If the email is listed, but doesn’t reach your email box, it means this issue is most likely related to your mail provider. If the proper authentication isn’t there, then emails either go in the SPAM folder or worst, don’t get delivered at all. The first step is to set an authentication to emails sent from your website using WP Mail SMTP plugin. This plugin will help you use a SMTP provider that increase email deliverability by using authentication.
