Creating the Static Front Page

By default, WordPress shows your most recent posts in reverse chronological order on the front page of your site. Many WordPress users want a static front page as the front page instead. This “static front page” look is common for users desiring static or welcoming information on the front page of the site.

To create the static front page, go to the WordPress Administration Panels, and visit Settings > Reading or to the Customizer, and navigate to Appearance > Customize > Pages > Static Front Page.

Creating a Front Page

  1. In Pages choose Add New Page and title it “Home”.
  2. Your theme offers an option to change the look and feel of the front page. You can select the Homepage template in the Page Attributes panel box.
  3. Add content you would like to see within the content area of the static front page, or leave it blank if it is a Dynamic front page.
  4. Publish the Page.
Note
You can go further with creating the homepage for your website by customizing the hero and by adding section widgets to showcase appealing marketing content.

Creating a Blog Page

If choosing to add a blog, choose Add New Page again and title it “Blog,” “News,” “Articles,” or an appropriate name.

  1. Do not use a custom Page template for this page.
  2. DO NOT add content. Leave it blank. Any content here will be ignored — only the Title is used.
  3. Publish the Page.
Note
You can go further with creating the blog page for your website through the Customizer to modify style and layout options.

 Setting the Static Front Page

  1. Go to Administration > Settings > Reading panel or please navigate to Appearance > Customize > Pages > Static Front Page.
  2. Set Front page displays to A static page
  3. In the drop down menu for Front Page select “Home.”
  4. In the drop down menu for Posts page select “Blog” or the name you created, or leave it blank if you will not feature posts on the site.
  5. Save changes.
